 The Railway Benefit Fund

The only charity that solely supports current

and former railway people and their families

The Railway Benefit supports current and former railway staff and their dependants when they need help through illness, injury, bereavement, or adversity. Nobody can predict the future, and offering that peace of mind within your industry is a charity that may be able to help you.

The charity has been helping railway people for over 150 years, improving the quality of life of current and former railway people in the UK through the provision of customised support. Assistance is provided in many forms, on a short or long term basis and is specifically tailored to an individual’s situation.

Help is only a phone call away. The charity offers financial assistance, practical help and wide-ranging advice, all in the strictest of confidence.

Today the RBF is a modern, forward thinking organisation, firmly focused in its purpose to offer assistance to railway people.

With an increasing demand on our services we need your support more than ever. There are many ways you can get involved and raise funds for RBF, or you may wish to donate your time as a volunteer.

"Thank you for doing an excellent job not only for myself but for all the other rail workers throughout the country"

"I really wanted to say a BIG thank you. For the first time since my husband passed away, you put a smile on my face, knowing that someone really cares."

"Thank you for the donation of £150 you have given to the Royal British Legion to assist my father to enable the work to be carried out in his home"

"On behalf of my wife and myself, I am writing to thank you. We are aware of the increasing calls being made on organisations such as yours and we count ourselves fortunate to have been treated so considerately"

“On behalf of my client. I wish to express his gratitude for the extremely generous grant of £1,150.This will make a real difference in turning his house into a Home"

“Thank you for contributing to the cost of my Dad’s respite. These two weeks for me each year meanS so much. I live with Dad who has MS alongside my two children of 2 and 5. My daughter has a learning disability so life can become very stressful. This respite gives me time to relax and unwind as well as Dad. It also gives me time to do special things with the children……”

“My wife and I would like to tender our heartfelt thanks for all the aid you have offered us, past and present. We can now sleep easy in our beds. The relief is wonderful and it’s all down to your generosity, you are incredible people, thanks once more.”

“I am writing to thank you for your financial support during the past three years while I have been at University. Your generosity has helped me immensely and aided me in acquiring a 2.1 BA Honours degree. As I am sure you are aware, the financial support I received went a long way in helping a working-class boy become a working-class hero in the eyes of his retired guard father.”

“Thank you so much for your help and kindness and understanding. It has been a traumatic time dealing with the death but you were the only people that showed any sympathy and helped us get through a little easier. Your contribution has eased a lot of anxiety and stress. Thank you again.”

“I would just like you to know the grant of £1,000. I appreciate it very much. This has been a wonderful grant…Hope the charity keeps going for others.”

“Thank you so much for the sympathetic and compassionate way in which you have dealt with my application. I simply could not believe the amount of the cheque for £750 which you sent me. I feel like a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I have been able to clear off my arrears, and I am not now frightened to answer the telephone any more. I have also been able to buy some stock for my food cupboard. At the time I applied, I was having to live on potatoes, and hand outs from my friends”
