Obituary: Sir William McAlpine
It is with great sadness that we report the death of our President Sir William McAlpine.
He was unstinting in his support for the RBF over many years and this reflected his passion and interest in rail staff and their welfare.
Sir William had a lifelong involvement in all aspects of Britain’s Railways; from railway construction to rail heritage: including perhaps most famously his role in saving and preserving the Flying Scotsman.
Tim Shoveller, RBF chair said:
“The RBF has lost its President and a great railwayman. We will never forget Sir William or the contribution that he has made to improve the welfare of generations of rail staff: past, present and future.”
We are sure that all RBF supporters and the wider railway family will join us in passing on our condolences to Lady Judy and the McAlpine family at this sad time.
