Railway Cinema Night with Michael Portillo
On 2nd March, Furrer + Frey hosted a free online Railway Cinema Night as part of Wales Week London. This unique event provided a history and current importance of the railway in the region, as well as the engineering challenges in the Severn Tunnel.
The event began with Michael Portillo, journalist, broadcaster of the Railway Journeys series and former politician, who discussed historic rail links in Wales and the mainline to London.
Noel Dolphin, Head of UK Projects at Furrer + Frey, discussed the current importance of rail links to Wales and the recent works to improve connectivity with the rest of the UK.
This was followed by the historic 1959 British Transport Films short documentary Under the River, which examined the Severn Tunnel’s complex construction.
The event raised over £200 for RBF!
